About our Library Media Center
The Crescent High Library Media Center is a place to think, create, share and grow. Mrs. Jordan, Crescent's media specialist, is always available to assist students with electronic and print-based information gathering and finding books for assignments or pleasure reading.
Crescent recognizes the importance of information skills in the twenty-first century. The library plays an integral role in helping students develop their capacity to locate, evaluate, and apply information. Classes frequently visit the library to work on specific projects. Mrs. Jordan works in collaboration with teachers to offer instruction and assistance with research and project design. It is Crescent library media center's mission to ensure that CHS students are effective users of ideas and information. Materials available for students include over 8,000 fiction and non-fiction books, as well as paperbacks, reference books, periodicals, and newspapers. The non-print collection includes computer software, DVD's, videotapes, Internet access and online services such as DISCUS, Proquest eLibrary, and Gale Virtual Library eBooks as well as eBooks in our Follettshelf. Our Destiny Library Catalog is available on or off campus via our library website. The media center hours are from 7:55 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.each day and until 4:00 pm on Tuesdays. Mrs. Jordan is available to come early or stay later if students need to complete projects. Please see her to make an appointment as needed. Students must have a dated/timed pass from their subject matter teacher before school and during the school day. No passes are necessary after regular school hours. Throughout the school year, the library hosts an array of special events. Recent activities have included a Hunger Games Competition to celebrate Teen Read Week, a scavenger hunt and a trivia competition. Upcoming events include the book fair, the CHS International Fair, Teen Tech Week, CHS Poetry Slam, NBLU Summer Reading Challenge and other activities via our CHS Gaming Club (The CGC) and the CHS Book Club, We're Booked @ CHS! The Crescent Library media center also offers opportunities for the faculty and staff to stay abreast of the latest Web 2.0 tools, resources and young adult literature via wikis, face to face professional development, A Novel Bunch (faculty and community book club) and the Young and the Relentless Book Club (for professional development). |
